The Shields Ferry, also known as the Shields Ferry, is a popular mode of transportation that connects North Shields and South Shields, two towns situated on either side of the River Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England. The ferry service provides a convenient and scenic way for commuters and tourists to travel between the two towns, offering stunning views of the river and the surrounding landscape along the way.

The ferry operates between the North Shields Ferry Landing, located near the mouth of the River Tyne, and the South Shields Ferry Landing, situated further upstream. The journey takes approximately 7 minutes, making it a quick and efficient way to cross the river.

The Shields Ferry is operated by Nexus, the public transport authority for Tyne and Wear, and runs regularly throughout the day, with services operating every 30 minutes during peak times and hourly during off-peak periods. The ferry service is accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers with mobility needs, with ramps and lifts available to assist passengers boarding and disembarking.

In addition to providing a convenient transportation link between North Shields and South Shields, the Shields Ferry also offers passengers a unique perspective of the River Tyne and its surrounding landmarks. As the ferry crosses the river, passengers can enjoy panoramic views of iconic landmarks such as the Tyne Bridge, the Millennium Bridge, and the historic Tynemouth Priory, as well as the bustling activity of the riverfront.

The Shields Ferry has been an integral part of the local transportation network for over a century, with ferry services first established in the late 19th century. Today, the ferry continues to play a vital role in connecting communities on both sides of the river, providing residents and visitors with a convenient and enjoyable way to travel between North Shields and South Shields.

Whether you’re commuting to work, exploring the sights and attractions of both towns, or simply enjoying a leisurely cruise along the River Tyne, the Shields Ferry offers a unique and memorable experience for passengers of all ages. With its scenic views, convenient schedule, and friendly service, the North Shields Ferry is a beloved icon of the Tyne and Wear region.
