LMS Black 5 No. 44871 at Newcastle Central Station Steam Charter to Edinburgh
A brilliant surprise at Newcastle Central Station — I had just arrived from Durham on another platform when I spotted the magnificent LMS Black 5 No. 44871 standing with a West Coast Railways steam charter.
This classic black steam locomotive was preparing to depart for Edinburgh, filling the station with that unmistakable sound, steam, and atmosphere that only a heritage locomotive can create.
There’s always something special about unexpectedly seeing a steam engine at a modern mainline station, and catching 44871 at Newcastle Central made the journey even better.
