Seeing the Northern Lights should feel like magic—but for many, it falls short. Wil will seek to share his secrets on how you can unlock the full, awe-inspiring beauty of the aurora with simple tools and timing, turning a fleeting hope into a life-changing moment you will never forget. Ultimately this talk seeks to help you identify when & where to stand on the face of the Earth to witness the world’s greatest natural light show.
From his earliest memories as a young boy, Wil Cheung has always been fascinated by the night sky. Today, Wil has observed over 385 Aurora displays. His broadcast channel, Wil’s Aurora Alerts, delivers real-time predictions to more than 60,000 subscribers, while over 255,000 followers on his Facebook page Wil Photography look to his imagery and guidance to witness the lights for themselves, with over 100 million views per year. His forecasts are trusted by travellers, scientists, and skywatchers alike.
Wil is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, an Aurorasaurus Ambassador, and a delegate of the International Dark Sky Association. He advocates for the preservation of natural darkness, not only to protect wildlife and ecosystems, but to preserve one of the few experiences that still silences us: looking up and feeling small, connected, and alive.
Wil’s work has enjoyed worldwide media attention from outlets such as Forbes, The One Show, ITV News, BBC News, LADbible, and even made an appearance on Channel 4’s Gogglebox. Wil has also hosted sold-out events at leading venues such as the National Space Centre and Sherwood Observatory, and most recently, led a privately chartered cruise of over 1,000 guests on an Aurora-chasing expedition to Norway.
