Clifford’s Tower, York
December 23, 2025 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Clifford’s Tower is one of York’s most iconic landmarks, standing proudly on a grass-covered motte just south of the city centre. Built in the 13th century on the site of an earlier Norman wooden fortress, the tower played a key role in the city’s medieval defences and royal history. Its distinctive four-lobed design offers panoramic views across York, including the Minster and the surrounding city walls. Despite its turbulent past, including a tragic massacre of York’s Jewish community in 1190, Clifford’s Tower remains a powerful symbol of England’s medieval heritage and provides visitors with both historical insight and one of the best viewpoints in the city.
