My name is Alan, and I’m someone with a long-standing curiosity about how the world works — both in the physical sense and in the human one. I’ve always been drawn to learning, exploration, and understanding, whether that’s through travel, history, technology, or simply paying attention to the details that others might overlook.
By background, I work in technology and have studied computing, electronics, and applied physics. That technical foundation has shaped how I think — analytical, curious, and interested in systems — but it’s only one part of who I am. Outside of work, my interests stretch across history, philosophy, science, economics, geopolitics, and the people behind influential ideas. I enjoy learning not for credentials, but for perspective.
Travel and walking play a big role in my life. I enjoy exploring cities, historic sites, museums, castles, and landscapes across the UK and beyond, often on foot. I’m particularly drawn to places with a strong sense of history or atmosphere — coastal paths, forests, old towns, industrial heritage, and landscapes shaped by time. I also attend events such as historical re-enactments, air shows, festivals, and cultural gatherings, where living history, engineering, and storytelling often intersect.
I have a strong interest in culture and hobbies as well — music, film and television, PC gaming, collecting (including militaria and vintage toys), transport and aviation, and technology past and present. I enjoy niche subjects and enthusiast spaces, especially where craftsmanship, design, or history are involved.
This blog is where these interests come together. Writing helps me think things through, document experiences, and make sense of what I’m learning. I don’t aim to be definitive or authoritative — I’m more interested in exploration, reflection, and sharing what I’ve discovered along the way.
If you’ve found your way here, chances are you’re curious too. I hope something on this site resonates, sparks an interest, or encourages you to look a little closer at the world around you.
