Participating in a work camp in Kherbet Qanafar, nestled in the picturesque Beqaa Valley of Lebanon, under the auspices of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), was an enlightening and rewarding experience. This work camp was not just about physical labor; it was a journey of cultural immersion, community engagement, and solidarity with the people of Lebanon.
The Beqaa Valley, known for its fertile lands and stunning landscapes, has long been an agricultural hub of Lebanon. However, the region has also faced numerous challenges, including economic hardships, political instability, and the impact of the Syrian refugee crisis. The work camp aimed to address some of these challenges by providing support to vulnerable communities and promoting sustainable development initiatives.
Arriving in Kherbet Qanafar, our group of volunteers was warmly welcomed by the local community, whose hospitality and generosity knew no bounds.
