SUMMARY:Heugh Battery Museum
DESCRIPTION:Heugh Battery Museum is a historic coastal defence site in Hartlepool\, England\, best known as the location of the only First World War attack on mainland Britain. On 16 December 1914\, German battlecruisers shelled the town\, and the guns at the Heugh Battery returned fire in defence. Today\, the museum preserves this history with restored artillery pieces\, wartime artefacts\, and exhibits explaining Hartlepool’s military and maritime heritage. Operated largely by volunteers\, it offers visitors a unique insight into early 20th-century coastal defence and the impact of war on a local community.
